I started teaching voice and piano lessons soon after I moved to Ketchikan in 1983, and have been teaching earnestly since 1991. Coming from a musical family in California, I studied Music and Theater at Chico State University. I met my husband and two sons back in 1980, and migrated to Ketchikan via Washington. Here, I have been involved with every major performing arts group as a singer, dancer, actor, instrumentalist, conductor, and director.
Lessons take up most of my afternoons these days. I also direct the Ketchikan Community Chorus, do some bookkeeping and was elected to the Ketchikan City Council in 2021.
I love sharing the gift of music. Classically trained, with an appreciation for all genres, I teach the art and skill of making beautiful music in any style from pop to classical. I love sharing the gift of music. Classically trained, with an appreciation for all genres, I teach the art and skill of making beautiful music in any style from pop to classical. I encourage my voice and piano students to be true artists, which is more than just mechanical note plunkers or cheap vocal copies. Lessons are fun but challenging for maximum rewards. I pride myself on getting the most from each unique student, and each lesson builds on the beautiful gifts that creative music brings. Bi-annual recitals are optional and help give the lessons purpose and encourage improvement. Many successful students have emerged from lessons a’Lallette with some pursuing music as a career. I also have a tutoring history, my dad was a reading specialist, and I assisted him with his students. My passion for Math took me to college, until I found the Opera Workshop. My opera experience taught me to speak with clear diction. I have helped several students overcome speech impediments, and given helpful tools to those dealing with hard-of-hearing loved ones.
My mom once told me, "if you're singing, you're not sick." And it's so true! Music is a powerful medium. Society has embraced it at so many levels, and we lavish attention on its masters. My mom once told me, "if you're singing, you're not sick." And it's so true! Music is a powerful medium. Society has embraced it at so many levels, and we lavish attention on its masters. The happiness that music can bring is undeniable. Music can also be used as tool for language, math, social and physical development in the youngest and oldest of students. It has both creative and analytical properties that utilize both sides of the brain, and those dual activities benefit growing minds as well as aging memories. It can build self-esteem and confidence, and it’s never too late for anyone to learn to sing or play the piano, so get well soon!
P.S. The business name is pronounced "Lessons ah-Lah-let"
Private lessons are offered in any style from classical to pop. Lessons focus on the needs and abilities of the student, and each student will progress at their own pace artfully guided by the intuitive instructor. Students should practice daily for optimal improvement. Lessons begin with exercises to build on technique and range. The remainder of class will be spent learning and interpreting songs. Homeschool documentation is available.
Young students learn about music notation and rhythm concepts in a fun no-pressure environment, using games, songs, instruments and movement.
These small group classes come with a healthy dose of fun and are a little easier on the pocketbook while the child explores the piano with no at-home practice obligations.
Feel free to reach out with any questions, inquiries, or to get started with your first lesson.
